Russia has blown up a large Dnieper River dam from the Soviet time.

In a southern Moscow-occupied territory, Ukraine has accused Russia of detonating a sizable Soviet-era dam on the Dnieper River, causing millions of litres of water to cascade through the area in what President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called an act of “terror.”

According to recordings confirmed by NBC News and local authorities as occurring on Tuesday, water broke over the crucial Kakhovka dam, causing flooding throughout the southern Ukraine conflict area, forcing evacuations, and setting off warnings of a “ecological disaster.”

The spectacular event can have long-lasting effects both on and off the battlefield. According to the mayor of one nearby town, at least one was already entirely under water, and authorities are worried about the region’s drinking water sources.

Russia has blown up a large Dnieper River dam from the Soviet time.

Volodymyr Kovalenko, the mayor of Novaya Kakhovka, told News of Azov, a project of RFE/RL’s Ukrainian Service, that the lower part of the river’s bank had already flooded the Kazkova Dibrova zoo, a summer cinema, a park area, and stadiums. He added that architecturally significant buildings were also in danger from the rising water, which is expected to remain for several days before receding.

The 30-meter-tall and 3.2-kilometer-long Nova Kakhovka dam serves as a crucial conduit for transportation and agriculture as well as providing water to the Russian-occupied Crimean Peninsula in Ukraine and the Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant.

Russia Declined the blame. It is not clear who is the behind of collapse the Dam.
